I had a week between jobs and a dream of roller blading from Los Angeles to San Diego for 16 months. I had the idea three weeks before to bike down the Keys once I heard it was flat. It had also been a bucket list item of mine to be the southernmost person in the United States for 10+ years. Unfortunately I came up short, as after 41 miles I realized it was more daunting than I had foreseen and I only had one day to do it. Given my exhaustion and lack of access to medics in the event of an emergency, I called it quits. But I will try again – maybe this time over two days.
